Orrin Woodward Persistence Principal Leadership
It boils down to courage and persistence. – Orrin Woodward

“Building persistence,” states best-selling author, Orrin Woodward, “is where the power is in a team. Where there is unity around a course and there is persistence to follow through on that course. That is when the greatest victories in life occur.”

Woodward explains to standing-room-only crowd, “Lets talk about persistence because persistence can be painful. Everyone wants the great victories but we've got to step back enough to realize that those great victories occur through people being persistent to a cause. Let me read to you something …”

'Don’t believe for a moment that the Centurion quality of persistence is going to earn you the admiration and praise of all those above and below you. On the contrary, you will most likely be skewered out of ear shot and you will be the butt of jokes of those afraid to oppose you publicly. Expedience and compromise--especially upon issues touching virtue, honor and integrity--are the norm and the expected behavior of today. Persisting in your principles, in a course of action in a way of conducting your business or in living out your life is discomforting to those who blow with the wind.'

“Think about that! I’ve heard a term recently “blowing with the wind” means like you’re a sailboat, right? But then whichever way everyone else goes, that’s the way I’m going to go in my life.

“But someone with persistence who understands persistence principle says, no I’m going to go the right way regardless of if I’m the only one going that way.

“There are two main reasons why people fail in endeavors. (1) They are not begun. (2) They are not finished. Laurie was talking about that up here. If you’re going to begin something, finish it. This is so important.

“So many people are like, ‘I’m on the right track. I’m doing the right thing.’ Well here is what Will Rogers once said, ‘Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there!’

“You see, I believe that you have to find the right track, you’re persistent with it, and then you got to go into action and do the right things.

“Persistence means valuing your purpose more than caring about who values you. That takes character. Have you spent any time to developing the qualities of Centurion honor? The qualities where you risk everything, persisting to the end because you know what you are doing is right.

“That’s right out of a book. Is this incredible? That’s why it’s so important to read, guys. I really believe that more people than they let on know the right thing to do.

“I believe inside that we know the right thing to do. So, if most people know the right thing to do, why do so many people not do the right thing? And it boils down to courage and persistence.”
