Solidarity: Lech Walesa Was Persistence Personified

Communist Poland fell because of courageous individuals willing to stand for truth. – Orrin Woodward

“I love reading history," states Orrin Woodward. “Courage says, 'What if I make a stand? ' I was reading some things on the Solidarity movement over in Poland--very interesting stuff that was going on at that time. You can see that the Communist Polish regime were saying, this Solidarity movement is run by a a couple of top guys like Lech Walesa and some of the others. If they (Solidarity) say they are going to go on strike we’ll just go and take a couple of their leaders to prison and this whole thing will fall apart. "

“So Solidarity finally said 'We’ve had enough of this Communist regime telling us when we can work, when we can—controlling our whole life.' It was terrible over there in Poland. "

“So members of Solidarity movement got together one day and they figured it out. They said, ‘If just a couple of us strike, they grab a couple of us and throw us in jail, end of story. But what if all of us strike?'

“What if all of us stood strong on the line? What if all of us said, ‘Right here, come on, right here on this line! Right here! You want me, you got to take us all! Draw the line. That’s what he did!

“You guys must have read his book huh? Because he drew a line and he said, You know what guys, lets all go on strike and they all went out. The communist government started throwing people in jail. They threw this one in jail and they threw that one in jail and then all of a sudden more kept coming. Pretty soon they had all the jails full and there are still more coming out! They (the Communist government) couldn’t get anymore production anywhere. It finally shut down the country and they had to come down and talk to Lech Walesa and the rest. Then Communist Poland fell. (Cheering)

“Now, I’ll tell you why it happened. And it’s happened to anyone who chooses to have tyranny. Communist Poland fell because there were courageous individuals willing to stand for truth….”
